Peripheral Sensory Afferents of DRG’s

• All Dorsal Root Ganglion cells have peripheral receptor organs or else synapse on receptor cells;
• Neuron sizes are related to ending types e.g. Pain small vs 2 point tactile endings have large cells.
• Skin epidermis- Free nerve endings detect pain
• Dermis- Meisners corpuscles; Krause end bulbs & Ruffini (Hot & cold); Hair follicle receptors; Dome receptors.
• Deep tissue- Pacinian corpuscles,
• Joint receptors
• Tendon- Golgi Tendon organs
• Muscle- Stretch Receptor ending around
• the intrafusal muscle fibers of stretch receptor end organs.
