Motor Nuclear Columns
Longitudinal limits of the motor neurons
- Motor columns for vertebral column extend the length of the cord.
- Motor brachial and lumbosacral enlargements have added nuclear groups for upper and lower extremities.
- C5-C8 and L4-S3 segments enlarge laterally in the ventral horn
- Visceral motor neurons are in the lateral horn and extends from T1-L2
- The neurons are “sympathetic preganglionic” . These axons synapse with paravertebral postganglionic neurons that target visceral organs and somatic smooth muscles and glands.
