Components of Mind - Understanding the Mind | Mind Over Brain
COMPONENTS OF THE MIND
Clearly, the MIND is an entity that extends beyond the
brain as the emergence of an energy-state out of synchrony of specific groups
of neurons. This state is recognized in functions that
we characterize as the MIND. An understanding of MIND begins to
emerge when we separate hard-wired brain reflexes and programmed behaviors
from volitional actions that are initiated by contemplations selecting programs
for behaviors. The fundamental components of the MIND include 1)
consciousness with memory storage and recall, 2) emotion generation with their
association to memories, 3) cognition as frameworks of understanding, and 4)
decision-making for initiation of programmed behavioral actions and speech
content. Together, these components of the MIND emerge as our
personality and define our intellect.
CONSCIOUSNESSAwareness of:
- Sensory modality inputs
- Motor responses
MEMORY
- Memory Storage
- Memory Recall
- Memory Association (Thought)
- Memory Retention and Forgetting
EMOTIONS & VALUES
- Survival (Nutrition & Procreation)
- Event associated emotions with memories
- Self-Esteem- Recognition of self as based on "Pleasure/Displeasure Principles"
- Mind determination of Values and Ethical Principles
- Reinforcement of values by Culture and “For the Greater Good” of the Species
COGNITION
- Structural/Functional Frameworks of Understanding
- Perceived Spatial - Temporal Order of Events & Related Structure
- Imagination- (Prediction, Vision)
- Prediction of Consequence for Actions
INITIATION OF BEHAVIOR AND SPEECH (Mind Initiated Motor Actions)
- Decision Making for Behavioral Actions
- Decisions for Speech Content
Components of MIND establish our INTELLECT and define our PERSONALITY (See Understanding the MIND).
